Sweet night at the Sugarclub Dublin

So Hey Rosetta finally made their debut in Ireland last week .

After I ‘ve been blogging about this band for the last couple of years  I just had to go see them.

Now abandoning all my parental responsibilities is not something I do very often but the kids were packed off to their grandparents, the dog left with my sister  , I booked the following day off work and we (my wife and I) drove the 200 km to other side of country to check them out with Seeds,Into your lungs blaring from the car stereo en route.

Where they good ? They were just so so good, incredible musicians and a really nice bunch of folks to boot .

Charismatic front man Tim Baker whipped the crowd up to a frenzy with people getting out of their seat to dance the night away in front of the stage and he also joined in at one point as he played guitar skipping amongst them.

The band effortlessly rolled through tracks from Into your lungs, Seeds with only real omission on the night was “I’ve been asleep a long, long time”  but understandably I guess they were suffering from over play fatigue on that particular track. But the band were so tight musically, playing a whole range and swapping instruments nonchalantly with each member demoing their craft to perfection.

Stand out numbers included a stunning rendition of “There’s an Arc” ,also the crowd singing along with “Bandages” and “Young Glass” was a bit special.

Speaking to the various band members afterwards , they genuinely seemed excited to have finally played here and I ‘m sure they will be back soon.

The Sugarclub is a real intimate setting with a great sound and it proved an ideal location for their first night on Irish soil ,

I’m sorry Olympia but I think I have a new favourite place in Dublin

Welcome Hey Rosetta

One of the bands I talked most about since starting this blog is Hey Rosetta  ,I still can’t quite understand how they’re not a household name.

At last I’m finally going to get to see the band play live in Ireland as this week sees the band make their Irish debut when they play the Sugar club in Dublin on the 12th April.

The band hail from Newfoundland once described as “the most Irish place outside of Ireland” by an Irish author with the deep ties between the two islands existing for centuries.

Hey Rosetta are made up of Tim Baker (vocals, guitar, piano), Josh Ward (bass, backing vocals), Adam Hogan (lead guitar), and Phil Maloney (drums) with  string section that normally consists of Kinley Dowling (violin), and Romesh Thavanathan (cello).

Here is their current single

Whale of a time

Only getting around to making a post on the recent Noah and the Whale concert at the Olympia last month.

The rescheduled concert went ahead on St Patrick’s day in the great old Dublin venue.

There is something special about this place and it remains my favourite venue in the country .

I have yet to see a bad concert there  in the intimate ambience that it offers.

For 90 mins or so, The band in their dapper suits led by Charlie Fink  went through material from their 3 albums effortlessly delighting the crowd as they did .

The audience sang along with gusto through First Days of Spring, My Door is Always Open, 5 Years Time, Mary, Love of an Orchestra, Blue Skies, Life is Life, tonight’s the Kind of Night, Wild Thing, L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N, Waiting for my Chance to Come, Just me Before we Met, The Line, Old Joy and went home happy after getting great value from their night.
